The original Wordle word cloud tool no longer exists, but there are others that still do and are still helpful. I found it to be useful in providing students with a nice way to visualize the most frequently used words in a passage of text. For those who don't remember those days, Wordle was originally a word cloud generator that teachers were using to create visual summaries of large blocks of text. We’ve delved into the Wordle site to check the exact colors used as # Hex color codes which are supported in modern Office apps.

With 1” or 2.54cm cells (see below) we’ve used 48pt Clear Sans Regular. We’ll use Clear Sans Regular for our examples, though for occasional need either Arial or Helvetica Neue (installed with Windows or Mac) are fine. We’ve checked the current NYT version of Worlde and it’s definitely using the fonts listed above. Note: in some reports it suggests that The New York Times uses the font “Karnak Condensed” for Wordle lettering.

On a Mac or Apple devices, Wordle uses ‘ Helvetica Neue’.Ĭlear Sans is the preferred Worlde font and is a free download from many sites including or grab it from Github. There’s a preferred font but that’s not usually installed so other fonts are recommended, and those fonts are preinstalled on devices.įor Windows computers it’s ‘ Arial’ – Microsoft’s version of Helvetica. Wordle looks a little different depending on the device you’re using, because different fonts are used.
